Day 2. Old Buckman camp to El Centro, Ca.

Day two!  I can still sit down, well, at least for a while.  The most exciting thing today was going down on I-8 to Ocotilla, Ca.  It was about a 2500 foot steep drop with cars zipping by at ridiculous speeds.  From the burns on the side of the highway there were at least five cars that burned up.  The brakes on the bike held up though.  Thank goodness for disc brakes. Then, we had to go about 25 miles on a very rough road that included a washed out bridge we carried the bikes across.  The day was actually 66 miles, and only 2,218 feet of climb.  We also got very close to Mexico - I mean right across a set of train tracks from the "wall"!  There were also border guards zipping around in suburbans with lots of radios and guns.  They ignored us. We figured they thought we were just crazy, not intruders.  Actually, the hills were made of smooth, worn but big rocks - very pretty.
Tomorrow we have an 80 mile day through a desert of sand dunes.  We will be getting an early start as the temps look, um, "warm".  Let you know tomorrow how warm is warm!
