Day 17 Fort Hancock Texas to Van Horn Texas

Day 17  We made the miles despite the rain and the wind, but it was not easy.  The total mileage was 75.2 with 1,789 feet of climb.  The wind was fairly constant - constantly getting stronger it seems!  Anyway, we made it just as things were getting dark.
The first thing is to show you the border wall.  Yes, it is real and here is what it looks like from about half a mile.
Next, as I went along I saw all sorts of businesses that dried up and structures that are derelict.  As before they all have a history.

Quite a bit of history indeed!
The things you read on trash cans too!  That is talking about today!?
Given this sign, there must be some pretty big wash-outs!

We had rain for much of the day, and it does take the wind out of ones sails.
So tomorrow we head back up in the mountains, and as cold as it is we might have snow!!

  1. So many gas stations... must have been the 70s gas crunch. Then goes the hotels and cafes. So sad to see some ones hard work going back to nature. Good riding in all the wind and rain pelting you guys!
