Day 21 Marathon Texas to Sanderson, Texas.

Day 21.  Well, the day started out with low clouds, rain and - of course - a headwind.  The good thing was that there was little traffic and it was very courteous.  We still got sprayed, but not as close as other places - like Tempe, Az.
The total mileage today was 53.9 and the elevation gain was only 913 feet.
So here is the start.  Yes, it was raining.
On the way out of town we again saw the effects of an, um, difficult economy.  Lots of closed down businesses that are being re-built/repaired/reconstructed.  In a few years, it might be different.

This is a re-built hotel.  It is neat, but expensive.
This is where we had pizza.  Susan was/is a great cook.  I recommend you go there.

This decaying motel shows how things were built years - many years - ago.  Mud bricks!
One of the things we saw were the Union Pacific railroad.  We biked along with it for miles, and saw a lot of trains.  As they went by I waved at the engines and the engineers tooted the horn back!  Neat.

As we went along the locals did stare at us.  As we had no hay, they turned and showed their better side to us.
Along the way we saw some neat rock formations - layers of rock faults at 90 degrees rotation.
Try to read the explanation.

Then, there were layers of rock covering these faults and here is a picture of them.
As we were seeing the trains, we did see the paintings on the box cars.  This is one that shows what the "artists" do.  I don't think the box car holds bananas.
We got closer to Sanderson, where we are staying, and again we saw why trucks and cars go by so fast.

In fact, they come on you so fast, you have to get off the road much faster than I am used to.  They come to you quickly!  This picture shows why.
And here we are, Sanderson - the Cactus Capital of Texas!
On we go!
