Day 7 Tempe Az to Usery Mountain Campground

Day 7.  From Tempe Az. to Usery Mountain Campground.
So, today was a slower morning of getting things set up to get back to where we finished last night - a very unfriendly gas station.  They didn't even give us gas, but when they kicked us off the parking lot we gave them some of ours.
Since we were not far from the camp The Poormans met with some friends of theirs and we had a brunch which was great - we even dressed in non-biking clothes.
Then, we did about 17 miles through Tempe and Mesa Arizona on city streets.  Lots of traffic, lots of stoplights, lots of barking dogs.  We barked back.  That woke some of the dog owners up it seemed.
Then we headed up the hill for a few miles to camp.  Nice place.  Probably out of town years ago, but now it is pretty much on the city limit - trucks, cars, lights, etc.
Here are some pictures, including the sunset - a very pretty one.

  1. Following with interest. Last time we were out there was running the Salt River. How is the heat?

  2. The heat has not been toooooo bad. Today the high was in the 70's and there was a neat tailwind. Actually, last night we had rain pretty much all evening. That helps with sleeping for sure. The day before we had tested out our rain gear, and it worked - well, sort of. Getting sprayed by trucks was hard to avoid. PCC
