Day 9 Cholla campground to Globe, Az.

Day 9  A very nice day with a cool start, but no rain and a good set of climbs.  59.7 miles and a total climb of 4011.  Here we are getting up, packed and loaded with some "Vitamin C" - coffee!
The ride along was so pretty.  I am sure the locals don't think much about the cacti, but they are impressive to me especially because they are said to be hundreds of years old.

One climb was about 1800 feet.  Here is a look at this climb from a distance.  You have to magnify it to see the road going up in the distance.

Here is a picture from the top, showing the Poormans making it to the summit.

Before we started the climb, we passed by the Roosevelt dam that formed Roosevelt Lake - and we passed on an impressive bridge - as usual.
Other things on the way were all the tarantula's!  They seem to have been brought out by the rain over the last few days, or whatever, but they were crossing the road in pretty large numbers.  The other thing about the rain was that the plants had all turned green, and as you see in the picture even the cacti were gettign ready to bloom.  Water is indeed amazing!

We finished the day by getting accommodations in Globe, Az., and then Paul P and I did another 20+ miles of biking.  Actually, the roads were busy, the drivers were aggressive and it was a bit tense in places.  The views made up for this, at least so far, so we will be back tomorrow!!
