Day 14 We made the highest pass of the trip! Silver City NM to Cabello NM.

Day 14.  We did the climb up to Emory Pass, elevation 8228 feet.  It was a perfect day for it - not too much traffic, cloudy with cool temps, and no rain.  Well, there was rain, but we were just down from the pass when it hit.  The total distance was 69.2 miles with total climb of 5774 feet.
On the way out of Silver City we saw the size of the mine infrastructure again.  At first, we saw an abandoned railroad and a distant view of the mine.

Then, we saw what road not to go on to get to the mine.
The reason the railroad was abandoned was evident just down the road where we saw the huge bridge for the monstrous trucks hauling ore.  Literally they were as big as a moderate sized house!  These pictures just don't show how big they are.

Also, as we went along we saw the abandoned businesses from the last generation.  They all have history for sure.

This shows what pre-historic bicycles looked like I suppose~?  Following this are a series of pictures just showing the sights on the way up and then down from the pass to Cabello, NM.

Finally, here is the view from the top of Emory pass.  This is as high as we will go for the whole trip, and was worth the effort!
On the way down we did see some cyclists from Mississippi who were on the way up.  Nice folks with some real stamina.
Tomorrow on we go to Las Cruces - going south!
