Day 11 Safford, AZ. to Lordsburg, Nm.

Day 11.  We had a moderate climbing day but started again with a headwind!?  So, I thought the wind was westerly - but that does not seem to be our luck.  Paul P. had some bike work to get parts for, so we did not start till about 9 am.  The total distance was 79 miles with 2,572 feet of climbing.

In the town of Safford where we stayed, there were old places being recycled it appears,  but the shops are a bit, um, oddly spaced .  Here is just one example.

The views here are sooooo huge!  It is really impressive.  Here are some pictures but they don't really give the image enough room.

One of the things we kept seeing were these neat looking plants.  I thought they were Agave plants, but am not sure.  Could anyone clear this up for us?  Send a message if you know.  Here are some pictures of them.
On the way we did get to go by Sandra O'Connors home ranch the "Lazy B Ranch".  Talk about the middle of nowhere!  It looks to be in good shape now.

We stopped at Duncan, Az. for lunch in the city park, and got to see some of the local sights.  This is for sale, including the truck and some air for the tires.
Here is one of the open shops - a neat rock shop.  Very neat indeed with a very nice display, a great collection of rocks and a very pleasant owner.
Finally, here we are crossing into New Mexico!  Arizona did not have a welcome sign. I am not surprised as they were never that welcoming to us.  But then, we are cyclers.
So, with the heavy rain on the outlook for tomorrow as are planng to drive up to the Gila Hot Springs and see the sights off the bike!  It will be a lay=over bike day, and I am ready for that at last!
