Day 32 Coldspring Texas to Silsbee, Texas

Day 32.  We are now only 17 miles from Beaumont, Texas - the place I spent the first part of my life growing up!  I now see trees, swamps, and critters I remember as a kid.  That and oil equipment too - my memories!!  Not as many oil wells now - seems to be a new technology - ? fracking??
We started the day in Coldspring, well, cold.  It was spitting rain, windy and fairly cold.  We were worried that this would be another tough day, but it actually turned out well.
Our ride today was 74.7 and we only climbed 1,052 feet.  What is exciting is that our total mileage went over 2,000 miles - actually 2001 miles at finish!!
Here are some pictures of us at the start.
Along the way we saw some "interesting" signs.  You might have to enlarge some of them to see the messaage, but it iis there.

As we have had a LOT of rain, the rivers are swollen.  This was the Trinity river which was at flood stage.  We did not have to swim.

About 3/4 of the way there, say mile 50, we stopped to clear some gear as the weather was clearing up a bit.  Paul P. and Gayle did not convert.
At the end of the day we did the last 15 miles in basically sunlight!  Also, here is the sign for Beaumont where I grew up.  Part of the "Golden Triangle" of oil producing cities - at least when I was there 60+ years ago.
Finally, this shows the distances and environments we have gone through.
This is today's view.
This is a week ago.
This is two weeks ago.

This is three weeks ago.

And this is one month ago.
Things DO change!

Well, tomorrow if things go as planned (??) we will (finally) be leaving Texas 19 days total to bike across - and entering Louisiana!!
