Day 35 Rain all day! Chicot Park to Simmesport, La.

Day 35.  It certainly gave us the rain we were told "we wanted"!  It rained all day - either sprinkling or downright pouring - all day.  It never stopped completely.  Drivers were courteous, except for the megaload that came too close - typical of the species.  He was definitely a P.I.T.A.
Here is what it looked like;

Still, we went on for 49 drippy miles and only climbed 281 feet - it is FLAT here!

You know you are in another country when you see road signs like this.
Then, there are the other signs that bring you home too.

Also, the different crops - like sugar cane - remind you of location.  Sorry about the drips on the camera, but it was always raining today.
While we were looking for a place to eat lunch, we rode by a Peakawun (Pecan) crushing mill.  You still have to pick the nut-meat out, but it really helps start the process.

As usual, the folks you meet have such interesting stories!  While we were standing out the rain in a roadside store for example, we heard about life in a little Louisiana town.  Lots of "bits", but not many "pieces".

 The lady at lunch ran a small but great restaurant with great local choices - including some super rolls and chicken.  No surprise that everything is sweet with cane sugar.

This fellow stopped to see if we were OK.  He figured a bunch of people out on bikes on a day like this needed help.  We probably do.  Again, sorry about the water drops on the lens.
The big difference between Louisiana and Idaho is the amount of heat and water - at the same time.  Here are some pictures that show what happens to buildings and equipment in a short time.

 A few years ago this dish probably had a direct view of the sky.  Then, someone did not cut the grass and "boom", the tree pops up.
Today, to let things dry out a bit we got a cheap, and I mean cheap (but dry) moo-tel to stay in.  Again, any port in a storm.
Tomorrow it is supposed to not be raining, but we shall see.  The miles await us!
